Your Ski Holiday - Bulgaria
Grow your business
How to get there
The best three airlines that we have found for flights to the Bulgarian ski resorts and mountain areas, if you are on a tight budget like us, are Easyjet, Wizz Air and Balkan Holiday Flights. The best prices are with Easyjet, flying from Manchester and London Gatwick to Sofia. The new airport terminal in Plovdiv is now open and should soon attract the low cost airlines as well.
Balkan Holidays are slightly more expensive, but have flights from the regional airports of Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Humberside, Newcastle, Heathrow and Gatwick. They fly to Plovdiv and Sofia airports.
Wizz Air have the summer flights to Sofia and are very reasonably priced and we have found quite modern planes, some with leather seats!
Booking early, but not too early seems to be the way to get the best value flights. We have found that prices are high if we book say, 10 months before we fly. The best deals seem to be in October / November, when there are sales of low cost seats. Leave it to the last minute these days and prices will be higher, this is similar with the booking rail journeys in the UK.
Flight times from the UK to Bulgaria are approximately 3 hrs
Bulgarian time is GMT + 2 hrs in winter and GMT +3 hrs in summer
Return transfer by private taxi is about £125 return for six passengers, the transfer time from Plovdiv Airport to Pamporovo is well under 1.5 hours.
(Winter flights to Sofia Airport from Gatwick & Manchester Airport)
(Winter flights to Plovdiv Airport from regional UK airports)
(Summer flights to Sofia from Luton Airport)
A brand new £7 million terminal is also currently being constructed at Plovdiv airport and will be completed for the 2010 ski season (this is now open, and the low cost airlines are having meetings with the airport manager!)
If you are about to set off on your ski holiday to Bulgaria, you can find those essentials such as torches (for those trecks in the snow to the local bar, or restaurant), warm clothing and thermals, ice scrapers (if you are hiring a car), deep tread, non-slip boots, oil to top up the car before you drive to the airport (did you know that airpot parking costs at Manchester and other Airports have dropped....it is now much cheaper than using a taxi - but watch out! There are several car parks and several terminals with different busses - take a map, car park reference and check the terminal number has not changed due to flight changes, just before you fly! - no last minute panic.
